Love Can Set You Free
Below is a sketch of my son Darcy. The photo I referenced
was taken in June of 2010, during a school field trip to
Fort Steele Heritage town. Darcy and his special education
assistant had climbed to the top of this old wooden tower.
Darcy was looking out over the grounds from the one, small
opening in the wire. I have always liked this photo because I
thought it represented limits and barriers that my son is looking
through and beyond.
You see, Darcy has autism and is, for the most part, non-verbal.
He is a very kind and gentle boy who, through no fault of his own,
experiences many struggles in his life. I wanted to relay a message
in this picture, that even though society may not treat him as an
equal and may be slow to accept his differences, love can be the
catalyst that opens dialogue, changes perspectives, opens doors,
and........sometimes, windows.
Cheers!

Charcoal and Chuckles
I took out a sketch that I had started and then abandoned months ago.
I finished it this morning and thought I would share it here.
I love the expression on this little girls face. I found the photo (my reference)
on the internet and then reversed the image before I sketched it. So,
if it seems familiar, that is why. I think I first saw it on Pinterest.
Her apparent happiness and laugh make me feel happy as well.

Cheers!

Doodles During Downtime
During a break at work, I sketched a ladies eyes
on a scrap piece of paper. It was good practice.
I have used the sketch as a bookmark since
then. I think it funny to have a pair of eyes staring
at someone from the top of my book. ;)
Cheers!

That Figures!

Don't forget about the up and coming figure drawing class at Discovery Center in Canal Flats this Sunday. We will commence at 1:00pm with our instructor Cathy Parkes. After our session we will mingle with some beverages and goodies while we 'gently' critique our work from the day. For more info call me @ (250) 349 5305 or email @ cartwrightleslie@gmail.com.
Looking forward to it!

FIGURE  DRAWING

Our art group did some figure drawing the previous
week. These are some of the sketches I made of our
model that night. We made sketches in 1, 3 and 5
minute intervals. It was good practice and I enjoyed
the exercises very much. We plan to do it again soon.
