fly away home....

Here a couple of tiles that I painted for my sister. 

She is moving into a brand new house and asked for 

some tiles to place in her new kitchen. Her granite counter top

 has a lot of brown and white with a hint of red.

A study in black and white

Below is a photograph of the Hoodoos at Dutch Creek, B.C.

I wanted to paint this scene but was trying to figure out where

my focal point was. I decided to alter the photo first to black 

and white and then to a charcoal rendering that makes it 

easier to see the shapes, mass and lines in my composition. 

By reducing the amount of shades in the picture it is easier 

to understand why and where the eye is drawn.

"Climb Every Mountain...."

Does anyone remember that song?

This is a large fungus that I painted on and presented to my father

as a gift. The mountain is significant to my father because he had

climbed it as a young boy with his father and brother.

Mount Dorman can be seen at about the halfway point in the road as it 

parallels White Swan Lake in the White Swan Provincial Park. The

 mountain appears over the far left corner of the lake as you ascend the road.
