Figure Drawing
On Sunday February 23rd, I organized a figure drawing session at the
Headwaters Art Society's space at Discovery Center in Canal Flats.
We had a full house for our instructor Cathy Parkes. Her daughter Stephanie
was our model for the afternoon. Together they made the afternoon a huge
success.

Cathy led our group through exercises in contours, negative shapes and circles.
Great Job Cathy and Stephanie! Cheers!

Looking forward to it!

I am very excited about the upcoming session for figure drawing with Cathy Parkes.
We had a lot of fun at our previous session. Cathy has years of experience as an animator and will instruct and critique for us this February. Table space is limited so register soon to ensure you have a spot for this event.
Cheers!

The Silence is Deafening!
For the past two Sundays the Headwater's Art Group has been meeting in
our space at the Discovery Center here in Canal Flats. We have been bringing
our own projects to work on. At times the room is quite noisy with multiple
conversations occurring at the same time. At other times you can hear a pin
drop! I remembered this poster that I had seen and have pinned to my art
board on pinterest. I plan to bring it to our drop in session tomorrow.
Join us from 1pm to 4pm, for drop in session, Sunday, Jan. 26th.
Cheers!

Popular Poplars!
I have noticed that poplar trees (aspen) have been quite a popular subject for
artists and collectors over the past year.  I'd thought about trying my hand at a
painting of the deciduous trees with their foliage in different golden hues but hadn't
found a particular scene that inspired me until I saw this view (photo reference) while
out for an afternoon drive with my family. The stark white and black of the poplar's
bark and branches creates a vivid and striking variance in a composition.
The acrylic painting below, which I just started this past week, is on a 12" x 24"
canvas. This past autumn I photographed a beautiful stand of poplar trees in their
brilliant yellow foliage. The photograph that I am using as a reference is actually the
result of two photos that I have merged using program on my computer.
